Merle Cockfield Obituary

Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the services for Mrs. Merle Craven Cockfield, age 93, who passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020.  She was a native of Appling County living in Jesup for over 60 years, a graduate of Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro and a retired English Teacher at Wayne County High School.  Mrs. Cockfield was a member of Jesup First United Methodist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.  She loved playing bridge, traveling and staying at her second home on St. Simons Island.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Neta Thomas Craven.

 

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Tim Cockfield, Sr.; son and daughter in-law, Tim and Laurel Cockfield, Jr.; granddaughter, Julia Cockfield all of Jesup; two special nieces and caregivers, Sherrie and Johnny Beecher and Dixie and Ricky Houston both of Baxley; daughter in-love, Ginger Aspinwall Adams and Douglas of St. Simons Island; host of nieces, nephews and extended family also survive.

 

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 11am from the Jesup First United Methodist Church with Pastor Rebecca Duke-Barton officiating.

 

Musical selections will be by Dr. Creston Groover, Reverend Tim Horne and Eric Parker.

 

The family will receive guests one hour prior to services at the church.

 

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Jesup First United Methodist Church at 205 East Cherry Street, Jesup, GA 31546.
