David Wayne Upchurch

Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the memorial service for David Wayne Upchurch, 68, who passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020. Born November 27th, 1951, David was a native of Appling County, a graduate of Appling County High School, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and Georgia Southern. He was President of Bax-Steel Buildings, Inc., where he worked for 52 years. He was an active participant for the Sunshine Center and pallet company and served as a Chamber Member, Industrial Authority, WBT Board member, and Boy Scouts of America supporter. David had a vast array of interests that included: autocross racing, tennis, private pilot, reading, listening to blues and jazz music, and spending time with his horses. 

David was reunited in death with his father, Eddie Ray Upchurch, sister, Katrina Marguerite Upchurch, and brother, William Bruce Upchurch.

David was a loving and devoted family man and is survived by wife, Phyllis NeSmith Upchurch. Four daughters: Meggie (Christian) Upchurch, Mandy Whitley, Allison Eldridge, Anna (Austin) Trapp. Three granddaughters: Harley Whitley, Braelyn Boatright, Brooklyn McLendon. Namesake and godson: David Oliver Batten. Mother: Gwen Upchurch Two brothers: Kenny (Laurie) Upchurch, Jimmy Upchurch. A host of nieces and nephews. All had a special place in his heart and life.

Due to Covid-19, a closed - ‘immediate family-only’ - memorial service will be held October 26th, 2:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory with family and friends invited to pay their respects by participating in a drive-through processional beginning at 1:30.
