Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the services for Iris J. Carter, age 92, who passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.  She was a native of Spokane, Washington living in Appling County since 1981.  She was a retired school teacher and an active member at Midway Baptist Church singing in the choir and a member of the John Rudd Discipleship Class.  She worked with the RCA Electronic Division on the Apollo Space Program helping launch the first man on the moon.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben C. Carter and parents, Frank A. and Alma M. Barker Galloway.

 

Survivors include one son, Maurice D. Carter of Wrightsville; one daughter, Cynthia L. Carter of Baxley; two grandchildren, Mark Carter of Atlanta and Brittany Carter of Gulf Shores, AL; one brother, Kenneth Galloway of Richland, WA; one sister, Bernice Hovious of Nashville, TN; two nephews, Ricky Compton and Edsel Mayers and three nieces, Sharon Mayers, Christie Carter and Donna Mayers.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 2pm at Midway Baptist Church with the Reverend Marty Anderson and Reverend Robert Wigley officiating.

 

Interment will follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the church.

 

Active Pallbearers will be Mark Carter, Terry Baxley, Frank Smith, Adam Smith, Larry Sellers and Billy Wayne Sellers.

 

Honorary pallbearers will be the John Rudd Discipleship Class.
